Shrimp accounts for over 60 pct of Vietnamese seafood exports to China
Vietnam’s shrimp accounted for a large proportion of over 60 percent in Vietnamese seafood export turnover to China in 2013, according to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP). The association said on its website on Monday that in the first 11 months of 2013, Vietnam exported some 517 million US dollars worth of seafood products to China, an increase of 38.7 percent over the same period in 2012. Among the seafood products exported to China, shrimp accounted for some 68 percent, worth over 349 million US dollars, up 53.7 percent year-on-year.
VASEP said the price of shrimp exported to China remained quite stable in recent years. During 2000-2006 period, shrimp export price increased from $ 6.53 to a peak of $ 8.68 per kilogram in 2002, then declined. During 2006-2012, price of shrimp exported to China ranged from $7.5-8.5 per kilogram, and is expected to increase in the coming years, said VASEP. Shrimp export to China is forecast to continue the increasing trend as changing lifestyle and higher income have helped boosting demand for seafood consumption in the country, especially high- quality products, assessed VASEP.

2013 – A booming year for Vietnamese exports to US
A senior trade official has hailed 2013 as a successful year for Vietnamese exporters in general. Especially those ship goods to the US.
Dao Tran Nhan, Minister Counselor for Trade and head of the Vietnam Trade Office in the US, said on the fringes of the recent trade counselors’ conference that Vietnam will run a trade surplus of US$20 billion with the US when its export is estimated to surpass the US$25-billion mark.
He forecast that Vietnam’s export to the US will grow by some 10% in 2014.

Remarkable highlights of Vietnam fishery in 2013
Through November 2013, total seafood exports hit USD 6.23 billion mainly thanks to a sharp rise in shrimp exports. White leg shrimp sales surpassed black tiger shrimp for the first time, marine products exports reversed to fall, fishery restructure in direction of value added improvement and sustainable development were considered as remarkable spotlights of Vietnam fishery industry in 2013.
Through November 2013, shrimp exports reported a year-on-year increase of 36% to touch USD 2.8 billion including USD 1.39 billion from white leg shrimp sales (up 106.6%) and USD 1.22 billion from black tiger shrimp sales (up 5.7%).

China Agrees to Ease Restrictions on U.S. Beef
As a meeting of the annual U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade came to an end , China promised to ease restrictions on imports of U.S. beef according to Chinese Deputy Commerce Minister Wang Chao.
No additional details were offered. Deputy Agriculture Minister Niu Dun said the two sides will work on technical issues, but didn’t provide a timetable for when full-scale imports might be allowed. According to a fact sheet issued by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative that both sides will strive for full resumption of U.S. beef access by July 2014 on the basis of mutually agreed conditions.
The statement continued that both sides will strive for effective solutions to common concerns regarding U.S. beef trade and promote U.S. beef exports to China. U.S. beef was banned in 2003 due to BSE concerns. Promises have been made before to ease those restrictions – but the ban has effectively been maintained.
Wang said Beijing also committed to submitting a new proposal next year to join the Government Procurement Agreement, which extends the World Trade Organization’s free-trade principles to purchases by governments. Government agencies, hospitals and other official entities in China are major purchasers of software and other goods. Business groups say extending the GPA to China could create multibillion-dollar new opportunities for foreign suppliers.

Seafood exports increase throughout 2013
The rising of aquaculture make the agriculture exports to reach USD 27.469 billion in 2013, an 0,7% increasing compared with 2012. Seafood export turnover was estimated at USD 617 million in December 2013, bringing the export value reached USD 6.7 billion this year, a 10.1% increasing over the same period last year. The U.S. market continues to be the largest seafood importer, accounting for 21.89% of total seafood exports of Vietnam.
Shrimp has become the major export items of Vietnam in 2013. The value of shrimp exports could reach USD 3 billion this year, come over the targets USD 2.5 billion was set at the beginning of this year. However basa catfish exports decreased 5% of value and volume exports.

Big scale pasture established in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, annual raw milk output 8,000 tons
On 20th, Dec. 2013, Zhanjiang Yantang ANZ Pasture is built well and put in use, this ranch has 2,500 Holstein cattle and all are from New Zealand and Australia, annual raw milk output is expected to be 8,000 tons.
According to reports, this pasture is jointed venture by Guangdong Yantang Dairy Co., Ltd. and its subsidiaries and Zhanjiang Zhanjiang Yantang Dairy Farming Development Co., Ltd. As a large ranch standardized milk base, the initial number of dairy herds up to 1,500, and in 2015 up to 2,000 cattle.

Chinese beef imports will double by 2018
A new report from Rabobank projects China will double beef imports by 2018. Rabobank’s Beijing-based analyst Pan Chenjun says imports may exceed 500,000 metric tons as domestic production will fall short of meeting growing demand. She says consumption of processed pork products will increase 10 percent during the period.
Pan said that growing demand may help the U.S. convince China to drop its ban on U.S. beef which has been in place since the first BSE case in 2003. Just-concluded negotiations indicate that may happen by July, 2014. One note of interest in all of this, Smithfield Foods is now owned by Hong Kong-based Shuanghui International. China is also considering lifting a ban on Brazilian beef.
As the Chinese economy grows, spending on meat products is forecast to gain more than 10 per cent a year in the next five years, out pacing a 2 per cent annual increase in volumes, indicating people are buying more expensive products, Pan said.
Consumption of processed pork products should increase 10 percent over the period, while China produces almost all its pork, Rabobank says it will need to import more corn and soybeans to feed the herds.
China import beef amount reached 253,196 tons by the end of October this year, while compared with last year’s import figure 38,251 tons.
Shrimp exports forecast to reach record high of USD 3 billion
In November, Vietnam exported seafood worth USD 650 million and through this month the figure reached USD 6.1 billion, equaling to the amount reported for the whole 2012. If this trend continues, this year’s seafood exports are expected to exceed the target of USD 6.5 billion and to reach nearly USD 7 billion, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters & Producers (VASEP).
Through October 2013, shrimp sales achieved a record of nearly USD 2.5 billion, breaking the previous record of USD 2.4 billion recorded in 2011. Shrimp exports through November 2013 were estimated at USD 2.7 – 2.8 billion and sales of this crustacean are forecast to reach the record level USD 3 billion by the end of this year.
According to the Directorate of Fisheries, through November 2013, shrimp farming area nationwide was 652,612 hectares, including 588,894 hectares of black tiger shrimp farming and 63,719 hectares of vannamei farming. From a total output of 475,854 tonnes, black tiger shrimp accounted for 232,853 tonnes and whitleg shrimp, 243,001 tonnes.

China will import cattle and pig from Romanian
China Premier Li Keqiang earlier this week signed two agreements with Romanian to import 500,000 cattle and three million pigs from Romania over the next few years. On a visit to Bucharest, Premier Li Keqiang said China also wanted to import sheep and possibly other food produce.”We can buy all you can deliver,” Li said after talks with Romanian counterpart Victor Ponta. Fast-paced urbanisation and development of a middle class have radically changed the Chinese diet, with meat increasingly replacing or complementing rice and vegetables.
The first group cattle will be shipped to China around January, 2014. And also Romanian official said that their country’s husbandry can’t satisfy China’s need, now submit proposal to China to set up joint venture farms.

Continued development dairy cattle breeding in Vietnam
In 2012, the total of the dairy cattle in Vietnam had reached 167,000 dairy cattle. By 2020, the total of dairy cattle will raise 400,000 dairy cattle, the total of the raw milk will increase 3 fold compare to 2012, from 381,000 tonne to 1 million tonne.
In Son La province, the total of dairy cattle at Moc Chau district has reached 15,000 dairy cattle, in which has 7,500 dairy cattle produce raw milk. Moc Chau has 45,000 tonnes raw milk yearly. In the 2013, the dairy cattle herd size will estimate increase to 300% compared to 2008.
In Nghe An province, the dairy cattle herd size has reached 35,000 dairy cattle at Nghia Dan district.
In Ho Chi Minh City, there are over 90,000 dairy cattle with high productivity, 4.5 kilogram raw milk per dairy cattle per cycle.
In fact, the Vietnamese raw milk only supplied 35% demands in domestic in spite of increase to 1million tonnes by 2020. So that, the dairy cattle breeding is expecting a new prospect.
